Basic Communication

Proper use of the building blocks of interpersonal communication—words, voice, tone, eye contact, body language—still determine whether or not the sender gets the message across clearly to the receiver.

Just as important as conveying your message is listening to the message others may be trying to convey to you. Be an active listener: don't interrupt, be attentive, take notes, and be objective.

Use the building blocks to optimize the effectiveness of your electronic communications as well. Plan your content, speak in a friendly tone, give the communication your full attention, and enunciate clearly.
